Hey man, great to hear from you. I'll drop you an email soon as I'm planning a two+ week return ride in March and plan to ride all the way down the peninsula and back. If you're there I'd love to meet up and once again tip a few beers, talk a little trash and hang out with you and the crew once again. Happy New Year!

I knew you would write a great report and I wasn't disappointed. Thanks for the kind words, we really enjoyed you. I just added a new Baja bike to my inventory. 2008 KTM 530 EXCR (street legal dirt bike). I have spent a lot making it fast, comfortable and reliable. Love to meet you down there sometime and ride along for awhile. Email anytime. Always nice to hear from you. Su nueva Amigo, Roberto Telaranas. They call me this down there. Bob

For the most part I love the ContourHD camera! It's dead simple to use, easily mountable/removable and you can buy extra mount "sockets" (my term :P ) to move it about when desired with no hassle and it shoots great video. And yes, it saves out H.264 QuickTime ready files, easy use in the QuickTime Player or iMovie (or of course Final Cut Express if you can find your license/CD). Additionally I bought 16GB MicroSD cards and can now squeeze something like 8 hours of footage on to each one, and each battery on a full charge can record for 2.5-3.0 continuous hours.

The only negatives I can think of are that it's not waterproof (most folks don't care, I off-road a bit so I do), the microphone on it is terrible, and you can't use an external mic without breaking open the outer case (lame) and it uses proprietary batteries that require you to plug the camera into a computer via USB or you have to buy a separate USB battery charger (not horrible but something like rechargeable AA would be nice, but add size).

Overall would I recommend the model I have to someone? No, but only because they now make one that shoots in 1080p whereas mine is "only" 720p. :)

Hey Tom,

I'm a Biker friend of your dad's up here at the Lake. Outstanding blog. Do you still like this helmet cam? And does it work easy with QuickTime and iMovie? (I can't fined my FC Express)

Cheers,
